The Best Stress Relieving Tip…Ever!

The best stress relieving tip isn’t some magic pill, or secret potion. If you’re looking for a new and crazy idea you came to the wrong place. You’ve heard it a million times, but I’ll bet you’re not doing it. The tip is…GET BETTER SLEEP! You might think you’re getting a good nights rest, but there are always ways to improve, and who doesn’t like a good nights rest. Here are a couple of things you can do to make your dreamy time better:

1. Regular exercise: Big surprise that I, of all people, would put this at the top of the list

2. Reduce your alcohol and caffeine intake: I love Mojitos, IPA’s and brewed coffee just like the next guy, but lets keep that stuff to a minimum. Alcohol might make you fall asleep faster but it does nothing for the quality of your rest. I think caffeine speaks for itself.

3. Check your bed, bedding, and pillows: Your bed needs to be large enough so you don’t feel cramped. Get quality sheets, the higher the thread count, the better. Also, make sure you’re comfortable on your pillow.

4. Keep the noise down: Unplug all accessories that are not necessary, especially electronics. They disrupt your sleep.

5. Keep it dark: Get “black out” blinds if you have to, but it needs to be as dark as possible. Light sends your body the wrong signals.

6. Keep it cool: Room temperature should be cool but not cold. Hot and stuffy will disrupt sleep without a doubt.

7. Stop eating so late: Don’t eat within 2 hours of bedtime. Your body doesn’t want to have to be digesting food in your stomach when you’re trying to fall asleep

Starting a consistent routine at nighttime can be the best tip for not only relieving stress at night, but also preparing for a restful nights sleep. My routine consists of reading with a small lamp for a few minutes, and writing down my thoughts so I’m not thinking about them when I’m trying to fall asleep. The routine will send a signal to your brain, telling it that its time to wind down for the night.

Good luck in your restful endeavors!
